Course DescriptionAccording to the UNPOL policy published in 2014, UNPOL performs two main functions in today’s peacekeeping missions: (1) operational support or (interim) executive policing for the delivery of effective prevention, detection, and investigation of crime; protection of life and property; and the maintenance of public order; and (2) support for the reform and restructuring of the host-state police so that they can provide police services that are responsive, representative, and accountable. The UN Police Officers Course is designed to generally prepare Individual Police Officers (IPOs) for duties in a peacekeeping operation so that they can: fulfill police aspects of UN peacekeeping mandates in accordance with DPO/DOS principles and guidelines; perform their police functions in an effective, professional and integrated manner; and demonstrate the core values and competencies of the United Nations

Aim of the CourseThe aim of the course is to turn capable police officers into competent peacekeepers who can: - fulfil police aspects of UN peace operations mandates in accordance with DPO/DOS principles and guidelines and their underlying international legal standards; - perform their police functions in an effective, professional, and integrated manner and demonstrate the core values and competencies of the United Nations.
